You always see the cutesy stone tic-tac-toe sets on Pinterest. But when you know that when Spring comes, parts of your yard will be dug up, then those won't really work out too well. Perhaps next Summer. But until then...
I got a large plain square paver stone from Home Depot to use as our board. I also gathered some decent size stones from the garden. (That rocky dirt finally came in handy!) I just used sidewalk chalk for the lines, X's & O's. Once the older two kids finally decide what to paint on the stones I'll customize it all. So far the top contenders are different color soccer balls, cows & horses, apples & oranges. And maybe something was mentioned about a monster truck & dinosaurs? But while that is still an ongoing debate, they can still play. Which makes them happy.
