My Review

Wow. After reading the first two books in this series, I had high expectations for this book & it definitely did not disappoint! 

I always love how the story bounces between Florida & Boston, but imagine my surprise when a place I grew up near & visited quite often made an appearance in the story! I was pulled in even more, because now I had another connection besides the characters I've grown to love (or tolerate). Add in a mystery to solve from the past, along with the current mystery at hand, and I just couldn't seem to put this book down!

Filled with murder, mystery, family drama, revelations, controversy & of course "sweet" Isabella who is able to save the day at just 5 years old!

When Officer Bud the PR face of the Boston Police Department is gunned down, his brother, Bogie McGruder, returns from Palm Beach for the funeral. By the time Bogie meets Isabella, it’s apparent that he still loves the mother and adores the child. Bogie tells himself that he’s not interested in the BPD investigation into Bud’s death, but he continues to be drawn into it while trying to discover who is attempting to kill Bailey. The investigations seem to parallel each other, then intersect and become intertwined. As the story develops, Isabella, a precocious child obsessed with martial arts, slowly becomes the focus.

The underlying theme of this mystery is lies. Everyone seems to be running on lies and half truths. The only pure and true character is The Girl in White Pajamas.

The Girl in Black Pajamas

Background: For almost twenty-five years, I did investigative work for small law firms conducting business in rough housing projects and crack house neighborhoods. I met with clients in every jail in the area even the now defunct Charles Street Jail and Deer Island House of Corrections. On good days, I got to take the .25 caliber handgun out of my pocket and the 9mm out of my purse and go to court. Then the real show began!

Several years ago, while sitting in a courtroom with a client, I watched as a police officer was lambasted by an attorney. The attorney was defending a young woman who crashed her car into two other vehicles before she passed out drunk behind the wheel. The occupants of the other cars were seriously hurt and the cop, a former EMT, tried to assist the injured while waiting for ambulances to arrive. The attorney questioned the cop's every move, shredded his testimony and made him seem inept.

Embarrassed, the cop returned to his seat beside me and muttered, "Everybody lies. The judges lie, the lawyers lie, the witnesses lie.." I wanted to tell him not to worry that in about five years he'd be just as good a liar as they were.

The seeds for The Girl in White Pajamas (the first book in the series) were planted in that courtroom.

 My Review

I've read every book in the Paradise series thus far, but this one had me on the edge of my seat! Literally, on the edge of my seat, talking to the characters like they could hear me and gasping along the way.

Let me tell you that the mess that Madison & Fab manage to get themselves in this time, is definitely a doozy. Something so complicated that it wreaks havoc on everyone's lives. Including Madison & Creole's relationship! (Enter cursing now.) 

I'm really not a romance reader at all, but I have been rooting for Madison & Creole every step of the way. And honestly, that's what keeps me coming back to the Paradise series. Of course all of the murders & whodunits get their fair share of credit too (& decapitations?!) But really, I want to see if wedding bells are in the future! Hint, hint...

My Review

NEVER before have I been so drawn into a book by the first sentence. The very first sentence! And let me tell you, John Mefford doesn't let the suspense die down at all. 

Just like the other books in the BOOKER series, there's plenty of greed, murder & mayhem to go around. And of course Booker always seems to put the pieces together just in time.Obviously that's what pulls me in time & time again, but this plot really drew me in! And the ending - shut the front door!!! 

BOOKER: Blood Ring can definitely be read as a stand alone book, but I would highly suggest reading the others in the series just because they're that good!

My Review

I've read every book in this series thus far, so of course I was eager to pick up where all of the characters had left off. Especially Madison & Creole!

I'll be honest, by the title alone, I was a little nervous as to what kind revenge was going to take place. Little did I know that the whole story was going to be twists & turns from one scenario of revenge to another. But my little heart was content that Madison & Creole made it through the story unscathed as a couple. Well, there was that one incident at Jake's...but that's another story so to speak. 

Revenge in Paradise could definitely be read as a stand alone book, but is far better after reading the others in the series because you learn so much about the characters & their backgrounds. Either way, I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a fast paced crime novel with a twist of romance, a little grit & a bevy of "colorful" characters.

My Review

Booker is at it again! Tap That is the second book in the BOOKER series & the action picks up right where the first in the series, Streets of Mayhem, left off.

Poor Booker seems to find himself in murder after murder yet again, only this time, it gets personal. All while still tying up lose ends from the first book of the series. And then there's his mom! Needless to say the action is fast paced & constantly keeping you guessing. I wish I could say that I was a step ahead while reading this, but I seemed to always be a step behind. Which of course had me reading for more!

Although Tap That can be read alone, I highly suggest reading the first of the series to be kept in the loop a bit more. Either way, if fast paced drama/murder mystery is your genre, you're going to love this easy read.

My Review

Madison & Fab have definitely done it again! Although to their credit, they never intended to get themselves into a predicament this time around.

 

I really loved how the characters intertwined in this installment. There were some new ones with new stories to tell, but there were also some from earlier installments that came back which I honestly wasn't expecting. I also wasn't expecting Zach to be involved in the storyline at all, but in the end I was beyond thrilled that Madison & Creole finally hooked up.

Greed in Paradise is by far the best of the Paradise series so far. It seemed like just about every page was a cliffhanger of some sorts that kept me reading for more. And as usual, I can't wait for the next book of the series!

Being that this is the first book of the series, I would hate to give too much away. That being said, John W. Mefford has done an amazing job at creating not only a storyline that will keep you reading for hours on end, but a truly relatable character named Booker. 

With the city of Dallas on complete edge from numerous bombs, Booker, a mixed race  & unfairly suspended cop, makes it his personal mission to save the city. All the while, it's like you're right there with him, seeing everything play out right in front of your eyes. 

I really loved the fast pace of this book, as well as the "mystery man" point of view. I feel like it gave that extra bit of depth that really submersed me. I was completely captivated by the ending & couldn't wait to get started on the next book in the series!
